Philadelphia Union (MLS) 2, Harrisburg City Islanders (USL) 3
Just three minutes in, the Philadelphia Union took control of the match as Walter Restrepo followed up on a failed clearance before slot into the back of the net. Just before halftime, the Union upped the score line after Roland Alberg beat Nick Noble. The City Islanders didn’t leave without a fight as Craig Foster narrowed the score line in the 79th minute to make it 2-1. Harrisburg was then forced to play a man down as Leo Fernandes received a straight red card in the 88th minute. With seconds to go in regular time, the City Islanders’ Bobby Warshaw captured the equalizer to take the score to 2-2 in second half stoppage time. Just as extra time seemed a certainty, Alberg place a free kick past Noble and into the upper 90, to give the back-to-back U.S. Open Cup finalists a 3-2 victory.
